About AmeriCamp

AmeriCamp was founded on a dream to offer the highest salaries and lowest prices for people around the world who wanted to work at what people would refer to as ‘Camp America’. For many years we have championed our original mission statement for the benefit of the thousands of people that have done AmeriCamp, whilst at the same time giving out lots of #FreeBiscuits!

For six years running, AmeriCamp has been independently named ‘Best Summer Camp Organisation’ by Save The Student – namely due to the fact that we pay the highest salaries, offer the lowest costs and have achieved a 100% placement ratio for everyone who completed everything on time for the past three years running! Add all of this to our excellent customer service and you have the six-time winner of the biggest award in the Summer Camp in America industry, which we work ever so hard to retain each year!

AmeriCamp work with over 600 US Summer Camps that are located across the entire US, from New York on the East Coast to California on the West Coast and even one camp in Alaska!ABOUTPIC

Participants are expected to complete a placement that will last for a minimum of 9 weeks (11 weeks for day camps). Whilst on a camp, participants are answerable to the Camp Director. It should be noted that camps in the US often have very strict rules and regulations regarding areas such as curfews, alcohol, smoking and behaviour towards campers and staff. Participants should expect to be asked to leave camp if they break camp rules. Being fired is not a pleasant experience and to minimise the disruption on camp it should be understood that following a firing participants may be asked to leave camp immediately. AmeriCamp will then work with the participant regarding the situation and if needs be investigate the matter further. Upon being hired at a camp, applicants will receive a camp contract including all of the duties and their role which they are expected to fulfil during their 9 week placement (11 weeks for day camp).

Frequently Asked Questions

The best way to have a say in which state you are #plACed in is to attend one of the AmeriCamp Camp Fairs, we hold these in January across the country and they are the best way of meeting the camp directors face to face and securing that dream job. However we would recommend not getting too hung up on the location of the camp, camp is an incredible experience wherever you are #plACed so engage your sense of adventure and don't get bogged down only considering camps in New York or California. You can use your 30 day grace period to travel after camp if you have a specific state in mind.

The only way to get #plACed with a friend, relative or partner is to attend one of the AmeriCamp Camp Fairs. However, please be aware that this is not guaranteed, it is the camp directors decision to hire more than one person at a time, it could be that they only have a position for one of your party, or maybe you don't all have the skills the camp is looking for. Always keep your options open, some camp directors are put off from hiring friends as it stops you fully embracing the spirit of camp, don't let this put you off, you will have an incredible experience wherever you are #plAced and you can always meet your friends/brother/sister/cousin/partner/grandma/dog at the end of camp for your 30 day grace period, plus you'll have more way more crazy camp stories to share!

There is no exact science to the amount of time it takes to get #plACed although generally speaking the earlier you apply the earlier you will be #plAced. The AmeriCamp Camp Fairs are held in January and here you have the opportunity to secure your placement on the spot. Qualifications in certain areas are always desirable (take lifeguarding for example) but they are not essential, personal experience is really valuable combined with positive 'can do' attitude. Add as many skills as possible to your application, even if you don't have the ability to teach it, the more skills and experience you have in different areas the better as it shows you are a good all round candidate. You don't necessarily need extensive experience teaching or working with children in order to apply, but you must be able to demonstrate a desire to work with children and make sure they have the Summer of a lifetime.

Most camps have a 9 week contract between the first and second week of June through to mid August. The Camp Directors then have the opportunity to take a look through your application and offer you a Skype interview, if all goes well your placement will be confirmed in your footprints account. It is also not unusual to be #plACed straightaway without an interview, if this happens congratulations! The camp director must have really like your application. We also run our camp fairs in January where you have the opportunity to meet with camp directors face to face to secure your dream placement on the spot.

Your video brings your application to life, it is the perfect opportunity to show off your personality and skills and to convince a camp director to hire you.
